2009 College Preparatory Seminar "Hockey After High School" Set

AHAI is proud to present the 20th annual series of Seminars on the opportunities in ice hockey. We’ll talk about Men’s and Women’s Division I, III, Club Hockey, Junior College, Prep Schools and Junior Programs. Players who recently explored these options, made a choice and lived to tell about it will be available to talk about their experiences and thought processes as they made their decision.

Attendance is mandatory for all players born in 1996 or earlier who have not attended a ”College Night” in the past. Players born after 1996 will not be allowed to attend this year.

Attendance qualifies the player for consideration toward AHAI sanctioned Player Development events including, but not limited to, AHAI sponsored Clinics. High School, Bantam & Midget age players and Girl’s born before 1996 who have not attended a College Night Seminar in the past are also required to attend if they wish to participate in any of the above mentioned events.

Everyone else is invited and encouraged to attend this FREE Seminar, including parents and friends of ice hockey.

The date is Monday, October 12, 2009 and the College Night Seminar will be held at the Woodfield Hyatt in Schaumburg , Illinois .

All players must register online in advance of the clinic.

W/E 9/27/09

Families,

Thank you for your patience and support this weekend during the tournament. I know it was a hike but the reasoning behind this tournament was to avoid playing any Catholic League teams. I think that it was a very productive set of games. The JV went 1-2 and lost the final game against a good St. Charles team with 40 seconds left after trailing most of the contest. The Varsity tasted a bit of success on Friday night and then showed the coaching staff some great hustle and willingness to keep pressing on in the final two games. We certainly have some talented young men in this program. There is no practice Monday night—enjoy the football game, and the schedule this week is as follows:

Varsity

No Practice Monday 9/21/09

9/23—Practice 8:40 pm—Team Stretch 8pm— Oak Lawn

9/24—Practice 8:15 pm—Team Stretch 7:45pm— Oak Lawn

9/25—Practice 5:10 pm—Team Stretch 4:30pm— Oak Lawn

Parent Meeting July 22, 2009

July 22, 2009

To the Parents and Players of Brother Rice Hockey:

Thank you for attending the meeting tonight. The coaching staff felt that it was important for you to listen to the same meeting that was held with the players in June at the beginning of our summer off ice program. I hope that it was informative for you as well. One important reminder: every Monday at 5pm, aspects of the game plan will be discussed during a half hour chalk talk. Your player is expected to be in attendance with a pen and spiral notebook.

Other information that is equally as important. Included in your tryout fee of $80 due at registration on August 6th are the following: four conditioning sessions on the following dates in August: 18th, 20th, 25th, and 27th at 5:00pm at Oak Lawn Ice Arena and tryouts will be conducted during the week of August 31st and September 3rd at Oak Lawn Ice Arena. Times will be posted on the Team calendar found at:

http://calendar.yahoo.com/brhockey2009@att.net

Game limits have been imposed on all High School Hockey programs this season by AHAI. Brother Rice Hockey Varsity and JV levels will be competing in the Catholic League and the Metro Invitational Tournament league in the fall. Using last season as a template, both teams should play between 40 and 45 games including tournaments and playoffs. By reducing the number of games and increasing the number of practices, our program will fall more in line with the philosophy of USA Hockey. (See AHAI Game Limits included in this letter).

Included in this letter is the contract that must be signed by the legal guardian and player and returned to Coach Bessett on registration night 8/6/09 along with either one check for $3,300 or seven separate checks, each in the amount of $471.42 post-dated 9/1/09; 10/1/09; 11/1/09; 12/1/09; 1/1/10; 2/1/10; and 3/1/10. Emails will be sent 1 week before due dates as a reminder of deposit. In the case of a player either deciding not to play or being cut from the program, all seven checks will be returned with your student on September 10th in exchange for the jerseys and pant shells. The tryout fee and check for the apparel will not be refunded.

Finally, there will be opportunities for you the parent to get involved with the team. Committees will formed throughout the season in order to facilitate functions such as: tournaments, Senior Night, and the season ending banquet in March. Parental input and support for these special activities are always appreciated and certainly needed.

Again I want to welcome you to the 2009-2010 Hockey Season.

Respectfully,

George Bessett
